John is happily married to the beautiful Jill who works in a drug rehab clinic.

Then, one day, a drug addict breaks into the clinic looking for drugs and attacks Jill causing her to miscarry.

After learning that their unborn son is dead, they both start to lose their minds and slide into absolute apathy.

In desperation, they attempt to commit suicide (and fail - their car crashes, but to get out one of them has to pull a metal rod out of their body and the other one has to cut off a leg). Having looked death in the eyes, they realise the value of life and decide to help people escape from the clutches of death and value what they have.
